2021 Oil Patch Kids Invitational

It’s time for the 27th Annual Oil Patch Kids Invitational Golf Tournament!

What a difference a year can make when it comes to seeing our industry return to some normalcy and seeing outdoor events being sold out!

We fully expect 2021 to allow us to return to a sold out, 27th annual event! Our board and advisory staff are delighted to tell you we are going to "tee it up" on July 16th and 17th, once again at Hogan Park Golf Course!

We intend to base success this year on seeing your faces once again and celebrating better times for our industry and our non-profits we so dearly appreciate!

Your individual and corporate contributions are paramount in completing this much needed support of children in need and underprivileged. We will make every effort to make the event worthwhile for you in every way possible!

All the event rules and regulations will be forthcoming as we draw closer to the date. Please reach out to Susan and Heather for team entries and sponsorships and Scott or Ronnie for course questions and on-course sponsored events which include cooker openings and contest holes.

Parsley has been a great multi-year title sponsor and we will forever be grateful and as you know change happens! Currently we are continuing to seek a new TITLE SPONSOR for 2021. If you would consider this opportunity, please contact one of us as soon as possible so we can provide more details!

At Nueva Vista Golf Club, our goals are to provide the best possible golf course conditions, the friendliest staff, and the most helpful service, leading to one of the best rounds of golf you will ever play!

We take great pride in providing an atmosphere that appeals to today's golfer. Most rounds are easily completed in less than four hours, even on the busiest days. This is the way golf was meant to be played.

The native grasses between holes and the undulating fairways give Nueva Vista Golf Club a distinct Scottish look, and the occasional west Texas winds are enough to make even Old Tom Morris proud.

Our location is convenient to both Midland and Odessa, our practice facility is the envy of many private clubs, and the course is truly a joy to play.

Midland Country Club set to host 112th Texas Amateur

Just last week, MCC played host to the 86th Annual Women’s West Texas Tournament and in recent years it has hosted the 2020 Texas Golf Association’s Women’s Four-Ball Tournament won by Midland High grad Faith DeLaGarza and her partner Amari Smith,  and the 2019 West Texas Men’s Amateur. The course also hosted the Tour’s WNB Golf Classic from 2002-14.

This will be the fourth time that MCC will be hosting the Texas Amateur but first time since 1997.

“It is a huge honor to welcome the Texas Amateur Back to Midland Country Club,” said MCC Head Golf Professional Evan Dunkerson in a press release. “Midland Country Club is proud to have such a rich history of championship golf and we are excited to continue this legacy and showcase our club by one again hosting the state’s premier championship.”

Added TGA Tournament Director Chris Untiedt: “We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to return to Midland Country Club. The club has a long history of supporting amateur golf and we are confident the course will rigorously test every facet of a player’s game and identify a worthy champion.”

The Texas Amateur is considered the premiere amateur golf event in Texas. Notable past champions of the tournament include Ben Crenshaw, Will Zalatoris, Bruce Lietzke, Charles Coody, Mark Brooks, Scott Verplank, Bob Estes, Brad Elder and Kelly Kraft.

More than 140 golfers will be playing in the event and the field will be cut to about 54 players after 36 holes.
“The newly renovated course will provide a great stage for this year’s Texas Amateur,” Dunkerson said. “It’s a par-72 that can stretch to over 7,400 yards from the back tees. The course will be in excellent condition for the championship, and when you factor in the West Texas winds it will present a true test of skill for the state’s best amateurs.”

One of the golfers to watch includes Baylor University sophomore Trey Bosco of Austin, who won last year’s championship in Fredericksburg. Bosco shot 72-71-67-69—279 to earn the one shot victory over Caleb Hicks of Arlington. Bosco is looking to become the first back-to-back champion in nearly 20 years.

Another player who could challenge for the title is Monahans’ JT Pittman, who recently completed his second year playing at Midland College. The UNLV-signee helped the Chaparrals finish third in last month’s NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock by finishing third individually and earning first-team All-American honors. In 2020, Pittman also captured the West Texas Amateur title in Abilene.

Other names to watch are 2019 Texas Mid-Amateur champion Chris Wheeler of Addison, two-time Texas Junior Amateur champion Zach Heffernan of Fair Oaks Ranch, 2020 Texas Player of the Year Colby Harwell of San Antonio, reigning Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play champion Aaron Hickman of Tyler, and 2020 LJT Player of the Year Matthew Comegys of Plano.

Nine Midlanders, who made it through one of several qualifying events held throughout the state from April until earlier this month, will be part of the field, including past Midland City champions Jay McHugh, Rick Houston and Lane Branum.
